Visitor Welcome Evening on Islay
I already wrote about the friendly Ileach, as the locals are called. One of the ways to welcome new visitors to Islay in the first decade we visited was a Visitor Welcome Evening. This welcome evening was usually organised by the local marketing group and took place every week in the tourist season in various locations.
What better way to welcome new visitors to Islay with an evening of song and dance, a drink and some talks about wildlife or history on Islay. The people who volunteered really put in some effort and spare time to entertain the guests and to make it worth while.
On one of the welcome evenings I created a video for the website to give website visitors an impression and it was well received. The welcome evenings themselves were always highly appreciated by the visitors. Sadly the initiative came to an end, not sure why.
Below is the video I took of a welcome evening in 2013 at Bruichladdich Distillery. Enjoy!
